EU top court raises evidence bar for freezing Russia-linked assets
The EU Court of Justice ruled on 3 September 2026 that a company's assets cannot be frozen merely because of Russian ownership or the autocratic nature of Russia's political system: control by a sanctioned person must be proven with objective evidence. EU companies with Russian-linked shareholders, and the banks screening them, will now need to document actual control - voting rights, appointments, cash flows - rather than rely on ownership charts alone. - 12.09.2026 Trade & Markets #China #Russia #USA #Import #Export #Statistics
